Located between Chief’s Island and Eagle Island, Xaxaba Camp offers a fantastic authentic and rustic safari experience in a pristine environment. Xaxaba Camp offers traditional mokoro or canoe rides along the crystal clear waterways of the Okavango Delta and walking safaris through the game-rich Chief’s Island. When the water levels are high motorised safaris are also available, exploring even future into the Okavango Delta.
Xaxaba Camp is run by Afrika Ecco Safaris from the local Xaxaba community. It is located on a private island deep within the heart of the Okavango Delta, a world-heritage site renown for its abundance of wildlife. This is a true rustic, wilderness experience ideal for the wild at heart. The focus here is on the community, the wildlife and untouched views in an area not known to many visitors. The island overlooks the famous Chief’s Island, and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy walks on this island. There are plenty of activities to enjoy that cater for the adventurous. Comfortable Meru tents, excellent guiding team and beautiful vistas greet guests at Xaxaba.
Game viewing in this area is typically done on game drives, walking safaris, and mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) excursions. At Xaxaba, you can enjoy game drives with experienced guides who will take you on early morning and late afternoon excursions to see the animals when they are most active. Walking safaris are also offered, providing a more intimate and up-close experience with the natural environment. Additionally, mokoro excursions allow you to explore the waterways and observe aquatic wildlife.

There are a maximum of 6 Meru-style tents individually set-up in a prime location overlooking the world-renown Chief's Island. Each of the tents sleeps 2 people, which means the camp can accommodate 12 people in total. This is the perfect place for an intimate crowd that favours an authentic "glamping" experience where the focus is on game viewing, activities and staying in a remote location. Xaxaba Camp is a rustic camp, but offers all the basics and comforts from home. You will sleep on raised beds and enjoy exhilarating outdoor bucket showers, while all your other basic needs will be tended to.
During a game drive, visitors will typically ride in open-sided 4x4 vehicles, led by experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife. Early morning and late afternoon game drives are the most popular, as these times offer the best chances of spotting wildlife when they are most active.
Walking safaris allow visitors to explore the Delta on foot, providing a more intimate and up-close encounter with the natural environment and its inhabitants. Experienced guides lead walking safaris, sharing their knowledge and expertise on the flora and fauna of the Delta.
Mokoro safaris are a popular activity in the Okavango Delta, offering a unique and peaceful way to explore the waterways of the Delta and observe aquatic wildlife. Mokoros are traditional dugout canoes made from the trunks of large trees, and are propelled through the water by a poler who stands at the back of the boat using a long pole to push and steer..
