The Okavango Panhandle is an important source of water for the Okavango Delta, which is one of the world's largest inland deltas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Panhandle is also an important center for fishing, with several species of fish found in the area, including tigerfish, tilapia, and catfish. In addition, the Panhandle is home to a diverse array of bird species, including the African fish eagle, kingfishers, and herons.
The Tsodilo Hills are a sacred site to the San people, who have lived in the area for thousands of years and consider it to be a spiritual place.
Visitors are drawn to the area to explore the delta by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), or to simply relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Most safaris in Botswana start and end at either Maun Airport or Kasane Airport. Daily scheduled flights operate between Cape Town or Johannesburg and Maun and on certain days there are flights between Johannesburg and Kasane.
Generally, the dry season (May to October) is considered the best time to visit as the flood is at its highest. During this time, the temperature is also more pleasant, with mild to warm days and cool to chilly nights. Regardless of when you visit, the Okavango Delta is a truly special place that offers something for everyone. Whether you're interested in wildlife, adventure, or simply soaking up the breathtaking beauty of the landscape, the delta is a must-visit destination in Botswana.
